Chimney Rock/Lake Lure, North Carolina

We began a short trip by setting up camp at Hitching Post Campground, located in Mill Springs, NC. We had a fine time at this campground- the bathhouse was in clean and working order and the service was wonderful.

We enjoyed a quick stroll around Lake Lure before heading to Chimney Rock!

Chimney Rock has many different routes and points to visit (even a bat cave!). We did nearly everything! The views are amazing. Typically there is an elevator that can take you to top. However it was closed for repairs, as it has been for the last couple of months. The good news is that the closure has reduced the admission price.

Exclamation Point is the highest point visitors are allowed to hike to. It is not an easy hike either! There are 1658 stairs from the parking lot to Explanation Point (roundtrip).

Be mindful of the weather! If it is too hot you may not enjoy yourself. Also storms are very common here. There are water fountains and soda shops in the park though. You will have places to refill your water bottle and grab lunch.

You will also want to leave time to explore the town at the base of the mountain- regional food and fun little shops are abundant in Chimney Rock Village.

If you are not up for a hike, you may enjoy Chimney Rock Riverside Park, located at the base of the mountain. It is FREE. Very scenic without the hike.
